BUYING FROM JAPAN

A safer route to authentic anime goods

Compare the seller, licensing information, total landed cost and return conditions—not only the sticker price.

1. Start with an official-goods check

Look for a named manufacturer, publisher or rights holder. Product pages should identify what is included, the release or preorder date, and the seller responsible for fulfillment.

2. Compare the total cost

International purchases can include domestic Japanese shipping, proxy fees, international delivery, import tax and payment charges. Confirm the final checkout estimate before buying.

3. Match the store to the product

Figures and preordersManufacturer-authorized hobby retailers

4. Treat preorders differently

Check the cancellation policy, release window and whether multiple items will be held or shipped separately. A low item price can be offset by split-shipment costs.
