Oshikatsu Guide: How to Support Your Oshi
Oshikatsu (推し活) is the collection of activities fans do to celebrate and support an oshi—a character, voice actor, idol or performer they especially care about. There is no required spending level: a playlist, handmade display or thoughtful recommendation can be as meaningful as a large collection.
1. Define your oshi style
Start with the part of fandom you enjoy, not a shopping quota. Some fans collect one character, some support an entire cast (hako-oshi), and others focus on a voice actor across multiple works.
- Tan-oshi: one primary member or character
- Hako-oshi: the whole group or cast
- Oshi color: a color used to coordinate displays and outfits
2. Choose one collection lane
A focused collection is easier to display, budget and enjoy. Common lanes include can badges for an ita bag, acrylic stands for shelves, oshi nui for photos, or books and music connected to a performer.
3. Build an oshikatsu budget
Set a monthly amount before limited releases appear. Separate the item price from shipping, proxy fees and import charges, and reserve part of the budget for events rather than treating every random item as essential.
4. Display, photograph and protect
Use UV-aware placement, sleeves for paper goods and secure pin backs. Ask before photographing in shops or cafés, follow event rules and never block public spaces for a photo.
5. Support without pressure
Official purchases and event attendance can support creators, but fandom is not a spending competition. Avoid harassment over pairings, rankings or collection size, and do not repost fan art without permission.
